No Rules Win Gives Cutajar Shot At Title

WOLLONGONG no rules warrior Mick Cutajar won his recent Xtreme Fighting Championship heavyweight bout against Queenslander Matt Foki at Southport.

Cutajar will now fight Brad Morris for the XFC heavyweight title next year after champion Steve Thomas lost to Morris on the same card.

Cutajar's contest with Foki - shorter than Cutajar but weighing in 8kg heavier - was stopped 1min 28sec into the third round.

Not many punches were thrown to start with as both fighters tested each other.

Every time Foki attacked, Cutajar either threw him or let his opponent throw him to the ground so he could counter play.

Cutajar felt Foki's weight advantage when the Queenslander placed his elbow to his throat and tried to knock him out with right hand punches and elbows to the head.

"For a split second I thought, 'I'm still awake, that didn't hurt, he cannot knock me out,' then the game started at a risk," Cutajar said.

"By round three, people thought I was finished.

"When I went in the corner I told them, 'I will set him up and finish this fight'."

Toward the end of the third round Cutajar caught Foki off-guard as he tried another suplex and was able to place a reversal leg bar on the Queenslander to win the fight.

Cutajar's next bout is a cage contest against Kiwi Big Jim at Maroochydore on December 10.
